Members of the bipartisan For Country Caucus held a press conference on Monday to urge President Biden to keep U.S. troops on the ground until all Americans and allies are evacuated from Afghanistan. Watch the full press conference here.
"We're here in a time of great need for our country," said For Country Caucus Co-Chair Rep. Van Taylor (R-TX-03). "There are Americans literally trapped behind enemy lines in Afghanistan. We believe that every single American should come home, that all of our allies should come home."
“We should not let arbitrary deadlines guide us. What guides us should be accomplishing our mission of getting Americans and our Afghan partners out of there safely,” said For Country Caucus Vice-Chair Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-CA-24). “As the United States, we need to honor our word and make sure we help evacuate the Americans and allies in harm’s way.”
On Friday, August 20, 2021, the For Country Caucus members sent a letter to President Biden asking him not to finish the American drawdown in Afghanistan until all American citizens and Afghan partners are evacuated.
