PLANO - After seeking input from Collin County Veterans and carefully considering health guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), U.S. Congressman Van Taylor (TX-03) today announced the cancellation of the 2020 Congressional Veteran Commendation (CVC).

Congressman Van Taylor (TX-03) said, "While we are disappointed to cancel this year's Congressional Veterans Commendation, the health, safety, and well-being of our Veterans and their loved ones is always our first priority." He went on, "The Congressional Veteran Commendation not only recognizes the wartime sacrifices of our service members, but also their peacetime community involvement. To honor the spirit of the Commendation, I encourage my fellow Veterans to continue selflessly serving others during these uncertain times and I ask members of our community to share with me stories of their benevolent actions."

In May Congressman Taylor announced his Hometown Heroes initiative to recognize those in Collin County helping their fellow neighbor and making a difference in our community.

Those who wish to nominate a Collin County Veteran as a Hometown Hero can do so online at VanTaylor.house.gov/Heroes. Residents are encouraged to include links to articles, social media posts, videos, and photos to accompany their submissions.

Questions about the cancellation of the Congressional Veterans Commendation program, should be directed to Congressman Taylor's office at (972) 202-4150.

A 7th generation Texan, Van Taylor is a dedicated family man, successful businessman, and decorated Marine Officer. Taylor served Collin County both in the Texas House and Senate. Today, Taylor is proud to serve on the House Committee on Financial Services.
